Round 3. Comics for August 3rd, 2005 included:
Ultimate Iron Man #3
DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy #3
Superman #220
Justice #1
G.I. Joe: America's Elite! #2
Detective Comics #809
Gotham Central #34
Ultimate Iron Man #3
Wow, so this book is kinda of just...bland. I am intrigued by the whole regrowth process due to his genes, but other than that it was actually very..unsatisfying. Maybe the time gap in between the issues have to do with it, or it just isn't as good as I was expecting from Card.
DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy #3
OK, so what's going on? That's what I thought.
Superman #220
I wasn't aware Clark didn't know about Conner's "heritage", so I enjoyed the scene when those beans got spilled. Also, what was up with Clark's ability to look within Conner? Kind of creepy. I've always enjoyed the Eradicator, and seeing it go after Conner and Clark was interesting, especially with their recent history. ANd finally, perhaps my favorite scene..."Get over it."
Justice #1
First off, I only purchased one cover: The Villains. This is going to be an awesome story, I can tell. I love it already. I'm just sad it's bi-monthly.
G.I. Joe: America's Elite! #2
The art works here, which is good because I was a little uncertain of it at first. I'm still trying to figure out who the "Strike Force" disabled guy is, and how he plays into the overall picture of things. And was Duke in some type of simulation there at the end?
Detective Comics #809
"War Crimes, Part 1." Disclaimer: I still haven't read this week's Batman, so any thing I suggest in this review is still speculation on my part. OK, so I'm a little unsure of who this Aaron Black character is, but we'll probably know by arcs end. Leslie resigning was a surprise, and from the solicitations we know someone will be out of Bruce's life by arc ends: my guess is Leslie. Which is huge, when you think about it. Leslie has been there for Bruce just as long as Alfred, and if Leslie is killed, it'll just add fuel to the fire when it comes to the promise. Vera being killed, and the frame job of Batman was interesting. And then Bats messing with the scene to eliminate the frame; someone it messing eith Bruce in a big way. The appearance of the Joker at the end made me happy, but I have the feeling that the Batman confronting Aaron really isn't Bruce. The way Joker called him "Batsy" when revealing he knows his true identity makes me think it's Black Mask.
Gotham Central #34
I read someone's review of this title last week, about how they got it because of the Teen Titans being in it, and how they really didn't like it because they felt no connection to the characters and it seemed to be all over the place. And I think this is one of those books that if you haven't read it from #1, you won't get much from it. It relies on knowing what has occured previously, and who everyone is and how they connect.
Now, this issue in particular...great stuff. I had forgotten Romy and Marcus were hooking up, and with Batman taking Romy's gun after being shot at makes in hard for Romy. Sawyer is out for blood when it comes to the leak within the force, and wants a name. But whoever is leaking is giving it to Lippman. Interesting, once again. And to make things that much more interesting, we have another Dead Robin!
